Do Self-Help Books Really Help? My Take and Personal Experiences

Image
E v erything seems to become a fashion and trend these days. Right from what we eat and wear to what we read. Reading is certainly a good habit, but nowadays, people judge us not just by the cover of the book we read, but also by the genre we choose. I still remember when a relative came to my house and saw my book collection (though I don't have a vast collection, I do have a decent number of more than 50 books). Out of these, 45 plus are fictional stories and the remaining 5 fall under the self-help/non-fiction genre. After seeing my book collection, the look she gave me was so harsh; she smirked and said, “Reading fictional books won’t make you a true reader.” Seriously, since when did the Indian government or the book blogger community implement this rule? She continued, "I read self-help books like Rich Dad Poor Dad, Atomic Habits, The Power of Habit, Chanakya Niti, and the list goes on. People who read nonfiction books are getting richer—take Jay Shetty, Elon Musk, etc.&

Exploring the Mystical World of "Oliver: Part 1 The New Era Begins" by Indira Murali

Image
I n the heart of the mystical city of Whitewell, a world of intrigue, curses, and haunting memories unfolds in Indira Murali’s debut novel, Oliver: Part 1 The New Era Begins. This book takes readers on a journey through two interconnected worlds, blending elements of fantasy, mythology, and psychological exploration. The story’s multi-layered narrative, combined with its rich world-building, makes it a compelling read for those who appreciate complex plots and imaginative settings. At the core of this story lies the legend of Oliver, a great horned owl with a noble desire - to transcend his avian existence and evolve into a human being. Oliver’s quest is not driven by personal gain, but by a profound wish to create a better world, a vision he shares with his close friend, Hawking, an eagle of equal nobility. However, as legends often go, the tale of Oliver and Hawking takes a dark turn. What begins as a hopeful endeavor ends in tragedy, and the once vibrant city of Dusk, home to these

Exploring the Depths of Existence in Shashikala Gadepally’s "Timeless Thoughts"

Image
S hashikala Gadepally’s "Timeless Thoughts" is a captivating collection of thirty poems that captures the essence of life, time, and the human spirit. Written in free verse, the collection transcends mere poetic expression, becoming a powerful exploration of ideas, emotions, and memories that resonate universally. The poems are a spontaneous outpouring of thought, yet they are deeply reflective, echoing themes that many can relate to in their daily lives. Time, as a central theme, weaves through many of the poems in "Timeless Thoughts." Gadepally delves into the universal nature of time, portraying it as an invaluable element that governs every aspect of our lives. The poems explore how time influences events, relationships, and natural phenomena, suggesting that everything unfolds according to its own timing. This idea is poignantly illustrated in the metaphor of a bud that doesn’t bloom until its time has come—a sentiment that resonates with the natural rhyth

Book review - Oblivion Express : and other short stories

Image
O blivion Express : and other short stories written by Amit Patil . Just as the title suggests, this book falls under the short stories genre. The book has a simple yet versatile cover image. It is surely ample and matches with the title of this book. If any book has a train-based title or story, I will opt for that book without any second thought. As doing so a few times it was a hit and sometimes it was a miss. Is this book 'Oblivion Express' hit or miss let us discuss the same in the upcoming review. This is a book that has a total number of nineteen short stories under three parts namely Arrive, Thrive and Depart. The stories were mainly based on human emotions and also the three stages/tenses of life. These stories were mostly the same length of four to five pages long, but a few were a little more elaborate than that as well. This is a short book with a few more than hundreds of pages, so we can complete it in a day or two at maximum.  I liked almost all the stories pre
