The Naani Diaries by Riva Razdan

This review is powered by Blogchatter Book Review Program

The Naani Diaries written by Riva Razdan. This book will come under the contemprory fiction genre.

The book title is simple and classy. The cover image portrays the book's genre and its vibe.

The main protagonist of the story is Radhika and she is soon going to be in her 30s. As mentioned in the blurb she was in New Yorker where she was in love with a man who broke her heart abruptly. After the terrible heartbreak, she decided to have an authentic arranged Indian wedding so she travels to India, from there the plot hits new twists with the touch of her Naani and Indian family drama. A slight peek-a-boo, there was also a hot neighbor in the story along with her fiance. So I can get that authentic Indian story with a hint of western and the punch of romance in it.

This book speaks about the life of a strong, talented, yet heartbroken girl. I can feel that the characters in the stories are of upper-middle-class people, so the story focuses on social and personal problems from their angle. This is not a Bollywood kind of story where you can see more romance, little tears, and a happy ending, no in this story you can find the real inner struggle of a woman who had a break-up and later decide to have arranged marriage, but still some of her bothering inner struggle. The mood and the set of the arranged marriage were elaborately presented in this story. The fiance character in the book felt so real and raw while reading, actually I can connect many men with that character. One word to describe this story is as though it is a fiction story, it has more of a relatable reality to it.

The story has high Indian emotions and touches into it. I like how the author has presented the main character Radhika in this book because the way she thinks, speaks, her problems, and even her feelings everything matches the Indian girls' mindset from time to time (though some may deny it as they are shy to accept the same). I usually love contemprory fictional books written by foreign authors and for sure I got the same feeling while reading this story too. It is a huge book that will surely take close to a week to ten days to complete reading it.  While reading the story some places make me feel as if it was a little unwantedly bragged. This book has some romance, pain, that wedding urge, realization, etc. So this is a modern contemporary cocktail fiction book with simple language and well-chosen vocabulary. I would suggest this book to all contemporary lovers.
