The Witch In The Peepul Tree by Arefa Tehsin

The Witch In The Peepul Tree written by Arefa Tehsin. This book will come under the suspense and thriller mixed genre.

The title of the book was a little scary and quite catchy as well at the same time. The cover image of the book was the perfect match for the story, if you look closely you can see the tree and the window but not the witch yet why? Let's discuss everything in detail in this review.

There are many characters in this book such as Dada Bhai of Bohrawadi Udaipur, Ahad, Sugra Bai, Zamindar Rao, Hariharan who is greedy over money, the Peepul Tree, etc.  The story takes place in the year 1950 and it starts in the house of Dada Bhai where he found his daughter Sanaz dead, since that day was a Mahara Sankaranthi the house was filled with guests and neighbors and there were also few other people from various caste and financial background such as Parijat, etc were also presented in the house. When they found Sanaz dead they also found a most shocking and important charcter presented in the room, who was that? why? what was the reason for her death? To find all these answers do read the book, A small spoiler it is for sure not a jeevti dakkan aka the living witch for sure.

While reading this book I was also expecting a good thriller along with some horror witch-based vibe. For sure I got that thriller vibe and suspense vibe but I didn't get or find any witch in this book, for which I was a little bit disappointed. While reading this book I kind of got the feel of drama-based slow-phased reading and for the story that was happening in the 1950s, that feeling is apt. What I like about this book is the author has taken me to that 1950s atmosphere where I can find the caste, discrimination, society, etc precisely and this book also explains and speaks about the same along with the suspense thriller.

This is quite a moderately heavy book with 300-plus pages so for reading it took me close to a week. The narration of the story is filled with long and elaborative and we can find the author's effort through those words and writing. I personally like the fast phased and page turners kind of thrillers, this book was a slow phased thriller, but I couldn't predict the ending of the book till I complete reading the same. One thing or a special mention on this book is the content page because it was so descriptive and clear which I absolutely love. Along with that, there were many characters presented in the book, and everyone plays an important role in the book but I couldn't find even a single unwanted or useless character in the book, which was very good.

Finally, who all can read this book:
If you are a beginner in reading, love suspense, and thriller-based novels, or like to read murder mystery kind of books then this book is for you.

The read was interesting but not scary and there is no witch in the book, but it has a lot of different varieties of emotions in it. Definitely a very good thriller but not the best read for me.
