Random Blog: Diwali Delights - The dishes made during Diwali

Who doesn't know about the 'Diwali' festival in India? As an Indian, I am truly proud that we celebrate such a joyful, light-filled, sparkling, and happiness-filled festival once every year. However, Diwali isn't just about the diyas (earthen lamps) and crackers; it is also renowned for its delicious sweets and snacks. Let me share some of the foods that we prepare in our homes for this festive occasion.

1. Murukku:

Murukku is a popular South Indian snack that is made during Diwali. It is a crunchy, savory snack made from rice flour and urad dal flour, seasoned with sesame seeds and with a hint of asafoetida (hing). The dough is typically shaped into spiral or coil patterns using a special press or mold (Murukku Kuzhai), and then deep-fried until crispy.

2. Adhirasam:

Adhirasam is a deep-fried sweet snack made from a mixture of rice flour, jaggery, and a hint of cardamom powder. The dough is shaped into discs and then fried in oil or ghee until they become golden brown and crispy on the outside, while remaining soft and chewy inside.

3. Gulab Jamun:

I think this dish doesn't need any explanation because this dish is famous all over India. Diwali is incomplete without these soft, sweet jamuns.

4. Spicy Masal Vadai:

Spicy masala vada is made by grinding soaked chana dal with spices like Onion, garlic, and green chilies. This mixture is shaped into small patties and deep-fried until they're crispy on the outside and soft inside. Masala vada is enjoyed with chutney or as a side dish with meals. This recipe is unavoidable during Diwali festivals.

Not only this we will also eat Mutton kurma, Chicken Gravy, idly, poori, Briyani, Chicken 65, and the list goes on. Though all these were high in calories I don't mind eating it once every year.  So for me, Diwali is not just about lights but also more about food, culture, and Tradition.
