Book review : Stars Will Guide You Home
Stars Will Guide You Home written by Stuti Changle.
Genre: Romance, contemporary Romance
The main protagonists of the story are Nirvaan and Kiana, both leading busy and work-filled lives, respectively. Nirvaan has a successful career as an entrepreneur, and Kiana is working in Chicago. Since they are both caught up in their work lives, they remain single in their personal lives. Somehow, they both end up signing up for the 'AILENA app', a dating and matchmaking app. This app matches Nirvaan and Kiana as the perfect pair, and that’s when the twist begins in the plot. On top of that, they were teenage sweethearts a decade ago but were separated, and now they don’t know each other’s identities on the app. Sounds interesting, right? If yes, then definitely check out this book.
This is a romantic story with a familiar plot background, but the twist involving AI makes it fresh. I liked how the author creatively used modern AI technology to add a unique touch to the story. The love portrayed here feels like modern-day, Gen Z-style romance, which was new and different for me. I especially liked Kiana’s character; she’s highly relatable and also strong by nature. Along with the romance, the book also touches on contemporary issues like family toxicity and emotional challenges. I enjoyed Kiana’s family-related parts just as much as the romance itself. This mixture of emotions brought refreshment to the reading experience.
The writing style was smooth and pleasant. The language is simple, yet it doesn’t feel too basic or overly plain. I liked the narration; it elevated the simple storyline into a much more engaging experience while reading.
Now let’s talk about the AI mentioned in this story, 'AILENA', which is the central theme and the turning point of the love in this story. Although AILENA is an artificial intelligence, while reading the book, I imagined her as a nosy friend who’s always hovering around the main characters, interfering a little, but helping them at just the right moments. That’s how I pictured AILENA in my mind throughout the story.
Even though I have shared all the positives I enjoyed about this book, I also want to say that the blurb might seem quite simple and familiar, as it’s the kind of plot we might have probably come across before in movies or even in other books. But what makes this book special is the way the story is narrated, along with the fresh idea of AI infusion in the plot, which is what makes it worth reading.
If you're looking for a light, cozy, quick, and comfortable romantic read, this book will definitely fulfill all your expectations.
