The Tiger That Crashed My Wedding: A Story of a Runaway Bride, a Reclusive Man and a Tiger

The Tiger That Crashed My Wedding by Pranav Mishra is the book I picked because of its intriguing title and gorgeous cover image. I know falling in love just by the cover is absurd but this book impressed me both inside and out from its cover to its content.

Let me give you an outline of the story. This book has three main characters: Avni, Amit and Mastaan Singh. Avni was under her father’s strict rules and was forced into a wedding her father wanted. At the wedding venue she meets Amit again, a calm and shy teacher who had once been one of the suitors her father had chosen for her. Then there is Mastaan, the tiger in his prime, who was in a cage but longed for freedom in the forest and also wanted a suitable mate. When these three characters come together at Avni’s wedding the chaos, humor and fun-filled journey of this trio after the tiger crashes the wedding makes up the rest of the story.

When I picked up this book I thought it would be a rom-com kind of novel but I was totally wrong. This is a fictional story that blends humor, the transformation of a reclusive mind, the emotions of an animal and the inner struggles of a woman seeking independence. The story is narrated perfectly without any flaws, hence the rereading or rechecking was not required for this read.

Amit’s transformation and obsession with the tiger create strong twists in the story. Avni’s character is crafted in great detail with a contemporary touch, and after a few chapters she became my favorite of the three. The narration is splendid and the vocabulary is moderately easy, making the book suitable even for beginners.

A small suggestion to the author: The font or size of the words could have been chosen better for such an amazing book, as rechecking certain words felt a little tough and made long reading sessions slightly challenging.
