The story begins with Anjali Kothari, a brilliant medical student, whose career and personal life become inexorably entangled with the socio-cultural mores of India. Supported by her father, who encourages her to "reach for the stars," Anjali navigates her way through society and rises to become a doctor with an inquisitive mind and a heart full of unfulfilled dreams.

But as all good things begin, they also end. The world seldom allows you to dictate the terms of your existence

Anjali's life takes a new turn as she gets married and is exposed to an entirely different world, replete with money, flaunting, and opulence, where her ambitions of making a difference take a backseat to the more pressing demands of an Indian bahu.

But Anjali is far from being defeated, as she finds solace in the company of a brilliant paediatrician and poet, Dr. Aakash Anand.

She is quickly drawn to Anand, with his magnetic charm and an equally captivating mind. But societal norms play a big role, and the distance between them becomes too difficult to bridge despite the emotional connection and intellectual rapport. But that is when Anjali realizes how little she knew about love, and Dr. Anand plays a mentor's role in helping her understand life, love, and ambition.

In the meantime, the plot thickens as the story unravels around the central theme of ambition and the human desire to conquer all odds, including fate, to achieve our desires and ambitions. Anjali moves on to research genetics, and genetics is a powerful tool which serves as an excellent backdrop for the protagonist's own journey from Delhi to England and finally to Shillong, as the author explores some of the fundamental questions about life through the lens of science. However, there is a deep sense in which Anjali's own ambition begins to dictate her decisions as a daughter, a wife, a mother, and finally as a woman who thinks for herself. The very same woman who has questioned the social mores that sought to chain her, begins to wonder if there is a bigger power at play: humans versus destiny.

It is no doubt, however, that Rajiv Seth has created the character with a mind of her own. Anjali is smart, ambitious, and impulsive, but at the same time highly sensitive and intelligent, and willing to embrace her own mistakes to move on with life in a manner that leaves her feeling complete. Seth captures the journey of self-discovery that runs deeper than just personal and romantic relationships, and delves into the very core of what it means to live as a human being with free will, ambition, and the ability to choose to write our own fate.

Stolen from the Stars is a powerful exploration of the limits of love, the possibilities of science, and the many mysteries surrounding life and death.
