Book Review - Rama: A Man of Dharma by Priya Arora

Rama: A Man of Dharma written by Priya Arora. This book falls under the mythology genre.

The first book I ever heard of and became familiar with is the 'Ramayana', and also it is due to the popular TV series that aired in the 90s with the same name. Although I was introduced to the Ramayana through various TV series and movies, I have not yet read the full, authentic version. I have made a few attempts to read it in the past, but due to its lengthy nature and my limited vocabulary, I was unable to make much progress about.

In recent times, I have read a few books that provide the essence of the Ramayana, but from the perspective of different characters presented in the Ramayana. I read the blurb of this book, and it gave me the satisfaction that it would offer the complete and authentic essence of the Ramayana. This is the reason I chose to read it.

This book completely covers and summarizes the entire Ramayana epic. It presents the story in detail, including all the scenes we are familiar with, or should be familiar with, from the epic. This is a thick book, with about five hundred pages, and it’s a slow read. One thing I particularly like about this book is its level of detail. On most pages, the necessary explanations of characters and scenes are provided at the bottom of those pages. In the final pages, there is an explanation of Rama's dynasty, ancestors, and descendants, which is useful and can be referred to later when needed. The language used in the book is moderately simple for beginners. I like the detailed narration presented in this book. It is quite thorough, but not bragging.

If you love the Ramayana epic, then you will definitely love this book. If you are someone who wants to learn more about the Ramayana, then this book will be prefect.
